Right in the middle instead of just being there – Google Maps becomes 3D with Augmented Reality!

At the I/O 2022 development conference, Google is presenting an innovation for Google Maps with Immersive View.

With Immersive View, a visual digital twin of the world is to be created. For the 3D perspective, Google combines 2D satellite and street view images into 3D scenes. In addition, additional visual real-time information, such as traffic and visitor numbers or the weather, is included.

For example, Google can generate 3D rooms from 2D photos of restaurants, for example. This allows you to dive into individual streets using the immersive view and continue navigating indoors – and all in 3D.
